Our experience is that, in general, the standards of personal appraisal and development in private companies fall significantly below those in larger companies, and are even weak relative to the public sector. Many private company boards are unaware of the opportunity costs of this performance gap as well as the risks, particularly the risk of loss of critical team members to the competition.

Working through the chairman and/or CEO each senior individual is profiled and assessed. Individual job objectives are clarified and an assessment made of the gap between where an individual is and where he needs to be (development needs). Individuals are given positive, constructive, clear and practical goals. Talksense mentors the Chairman/CEO in monitoring and supporting the individual in achieving their development plans.

Talksense also runs workshops educating teams on the principles of effective teamworking. The sessions include feedback on preferred team roles, based on personality preferences, identifying any obvious gaps. Talksense will facilitate at team meetings to improve teamwork and to raise levels of self-awareness.

Psychometric profiling is a scientific way of describing personality and comparing individuals to each other and against a population norm. It creates a common and intuitive language which promotes constructive discussion of an individual’s strengths and development needs, and minimises the subjective nature of personal appraisal.

Psychometrics are a tool to be used in support of recruitment and development activity and are most useful when used as an aid to skilful interviewing and mentoring. No personality profile is inherently good or bad, but a psychometric profile overlays an individuals natural preferences on the requirements and demands of their role. This allows the individual to see where he is likely to perform well, and also see where he is likely to feel challenged.
